A Systematic Literature Review on Trends in the Use of Science Experiments in Online Learning Environments
The International Review of Research in Open and Distributed Learning
Experiments are considered to be essential components of science learning. This research aimed to investigate trends in the use of science experiments in online learning. A systematic literature review was carried out, with data sourced from the Scopus and Google Scholar databases. The reviewed documents were journal articles published between 2015 and 2022, with the keywords “science practicum,”“science experiments,”“distance learning,”“online learning,” and “hands-on science.” Using Harzing’s Publish or Perish software, 970 articles were found but only 32 were reviewed. The literature review followed a procedure adapted from the preferred reporting items for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA), with articles reviewed based on predetermined criteria such as the year of publication, article source, practicum topics, research subjects, assessment methods, technology, and experiment design in online learning. In the results, various designs for online learning models, the technology used in science experiments, topics addressed, and appropriate assessment methods were identified. Trends included the extensive use of interactive simulation models in online science experiments, the use of virtual laboratories as a crucial technology, and the use of experiment reports to assess students. The analysis showed a sharp increase in the number of publications since the pandemic (2020) and that online science experiments might be carried out effectively by considering the characteristics of the material, matching the science curriculum, and using assessments that fulfill the objectives of science experiments.

Assessing Decision-Making Skills in Electricity: Rasch Analysis

Decision-making is an essential 21st-century skill, and this is evidenced by the fact that the skill has increasingly gained attention in the current educational landscape. Accordingly, among the various competencies assessed by PISA, decision-making has been observed to be at the top of the list. This skill is particularly important, especially considering the fact that it provides college graduates with a competitive edge in the current workforce. Despite its significance, little work has been carried out to measure decision-making in the context of physics education using Rasch analysis. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the decision-making skills of prospective science teachers, with particular attention to differences based on gender and domicile. In order to achieve the stated objective, a quantitative study method was adopted, with the inclusion of 172 prospective science teachers who had received basic physics. Accordingly, data were collected using a paper-based test technique, which included six questions related to decision-making skills. The physics material utilized during the course of the study includes dynamic electricity, and in terms of the determination of validity and reliability, as well as item difficulty and differences in decision-making skills based on gender and domicile of the prospective science teacher, the Rasch measurement approach was adopted. The obtained results showed that no items could be reviewed based on gender and domicile of the observed prospective science teachers. However, a significant difference was found between the decision-making skills of participants based on gender.
The relationship between metacognitive and critical thinking abilities across three distinct learning approaches

This research explores variations in the correlated regression equations. The findings demonstrate a connection between metacognitive capabilities and critical thinking skills. This study's sample consists of ninety science education students aged between nineteen and twenty-one. The students are divided into three groups, each receiving a different teaching technique. Data on metacognitive and critical thinking abilities were collected for each group. Regression analysis was employed to examine the relationship between metacognitive skills and critical thinking skills at a significance level of 0.05. Results show a significant association between metacognitive abilities and critical thinking skills across the three learning techniques, with distinct regression lines verified using ANOVA. The study suggests that these learning strategies influence the rate and extent of growth in critical thinking abilities in unique ways.
Application of the POE learning model assisted with the instagram application in improving critical thinking skills

This study aims to analyze the improvement of critical thinking skills of grade X students which is applied using the POE (Predict, Observe, Explain) learning model assisted by the Instagram application on environmental change material. The research was carried out at SMAN 1 Susukan using an experimental method with a research design in the form of a pretest-posttest control group design. Sampling using a simple random sampling technique with a sample size of 64 students. The data collection technique was in the form of a reasoned multiple-choice test with a total of 30 questions used to analyze students' critical thinking skills. The data analysis technique consisted of the N-Gain test and statistical tests in the form of normality test, homogeneity test, and hypothesis testing. The results showed that the results of the N-Gain in the experimental class and control class were included in the medium category with values of 0.57 and 0.43. The highest N-Gain value in the experimental class and control class is found in the KBK 2 indicator (analysis) of 0.68 and 0.42 The lowest N-Gain value is found in the KBK 4 indicator (inference) of 0.41 and 0.33. The application of the Instagram-assisted POE learning model can improve critical thinking skills.
Penerapan model guided discovery learning berbantuan mind map pada materi sistem pernapasan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa kelas XI

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk (1) mengetahui keterlaksanaan model guided discovery learning berbantuan mind map,(2) menganalisis perbedaan peningkatan hasil belajar. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode eksperimen semu (quasi experiment): nonequivalent control group design. Sampel terdiri dari kelas XI MIPA 3 dan kelas XI MIPA 4. Teknik pengumpulan data berupa observasi dan tes. Teknik analisis data menggunakan uji N-gain, Paired Sample T-Test. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan (1) keterlaksanaan penerapan model guided discovery learning berbantuan mind map pada aktivitas guru mengajar yakni pertemuan pertama 73.53%, pertemuan kedua 88.24%, dan pertemuan ketiga 98.53%. Aktivitas siswa dengan menggunakan model guided discovery learning berbantuan mind map yakni pertemuan pertama 57.03%, pertemuan kedua 74.91%, dan pada pertemuan ketiga 92.19%.(2) Hasil belajar siswa kelas eksperimen dan kelas kontrol menunjukkan perbedaan peningkatan yang signifikan. Hasil uji hipotesis diperoleh nilai Sig.(2-tailed) 0.000< 0.05 maka H1 diterima.
Application of the Environmental Exploration Approach (JAS) Assisted by QR Codes to Increase Scientific Literacy Aspects of Competency and Conservation Attitudes in Plantae Material

The purpose of this study was to describe student learning activities, to analyze the differences in increasing scientific literacy in the aspect of student competency and to analyze the increase in conservation attitudes of class X students in plantae material which was taught using the Natural Surroundings (JAS) approach assisted by the QR Code. This research is a quantitative study with a sample of 31 students of class X MIPA 1 control class and 32 students of class X MIPA 3 experimental class. The research design used was the pretest posttest control group model. Data collection techniques in this study used observation, tests and questionnaires. The results showed that there was an increase in student learning activities at each meeting. There is a significant difference in increasing scientific literacy in the competency aspect in indicator 2 with a significance value of 0.000. And there is an increase in conservation attitudes after the learning treatment. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that the application of learning using the Natural Surrounding Exploration (JAS) approach assisted by the QR Code can increase student learning activities, scientific literacy aspects of competence and students' conservation attitudes towards biology learning.
Problem Based Learning Model Integrated Islamic Values with Mind Mapping Assessment to Improve Students' Creative Thinking Skills

Indonesian education system required to be able develop 21 st century skills, one of which is creative thinking skills (CTS). In fact, students' CTS are still low. The purpose study are to describe student learning activities, to analyze students' KBK and to describe student respon through application problem based learning (PBL) model integrates Islamic values with mind mapping assessments. Research method uses a true-experimental design with a postest only control design. The research location at SMAN 1 Dukupuntang and the respondents are 30 students. Sampling technique was random sampling, population of all IPA students in class X. The selected classes were class X IPA 1 as experimental class and X IPA 2 as the control class. Data collection research are observation sheets, mind mapping and questionnaires. Data processing techniques in the form of normality test, homogeneity test and hypothesis testing. The results showed that the average value of student learning activities is 88 classified as very good. The application of the PBL model that integrates Islamic values with mind mapping assessments is able to significantly improve students' KBK with scores Asymp Sig.(2-tailed) 0.000. Student responses positive with a response scale interest category (67, 8). The findings in this study are that students need more stimulation to be able to integrate Islamic values with science during online learning. It can be concluded that the PBL model integrated with Islamic values with mind mapping assessment is able to improve students' creative thinking skills.
Practicality and Effectiveness of STEM-R Electronic Modules in Improving Students' Mastery of Material on Environmental Conservation

The development of internet-integrated teaching materials is important in meeting the demands of education in the era of globalization, which allows students to access information quickly and keep it up-to-date. In addition, integrating various branches of science in teaching materials can enrich students' knowledge, improve critical thinking skills, and prepare them to face global challenges. This study aims to analyze the feasibility of STEM-based electronic modules on environmental conservation materials, the practicality of STEM-R-based electronic modules on environmental conservation materials, and the effectiveness of STEM-R-based electronic modules in improving mastery of environmental conservation materials. This study uses the Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE model, which consists of five stages: analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. The subjects of this study involved media experts, material experts, biology teachers, and students, while the object of the study was the STEM-R-based electronic module. Data collection techniques used include Validation sheets to assess the feasibility of the module, practicality questionnaires to evaluate the practicality of the module, and test instruments to measure the module's effectiveness in improving mastery of environmental conservation material concepts. The study results showed that the developed electronic module was declared feasible with an overall Content Validity Ratio (CVR) and Coefficient Validity Index (CVI) value of 1, the developed electronic module was declared very practical with a practicality percentage of 96.17%, and the developed electronic module obtained an N-Gain value of 0.64. The STEM-R-based electronic module is categorized as moderately effective in improving students' mastery of environmental conservation material.
